5 TIPS TO IMPROVE VOLLEYBALL QUICKNESS

TEACHING FOOTWORK FOR SPIKING AND SETTING

If you’ve been around volleyball for awhile, you’ve probably noticed that most players approach to hit with the last steps always being right foot then left.

Generally, it’s best to go right-left if you’re right handed, left-right if you’re left-handed.

You’ve probably heard of the term “goofy-footed”. This is when your last two steps are backwards.

Do you need help with your volleyball approach?

How’s your footwork for setting? If your footwork isn’t consistent and efficient, you’re likely having trouble getting in position to set.

Your setting footwork needs to be good especially if you want to play volleyball in college. I know many college coaches that won’t even consider looking at a setter that doesn’t have good footwork. It really is THAT important.

5 TIPS TO IMPROVE VOLLEYBALL QUICKNESS

Extensor Dominant Movement = Blazing Speed

Speed favors a certain type of athletic movement. This movement is a movement that’s dominated by muscles that extend the hips.

An athlete that overly develops the quadriceps and also lacks hamstring strength and glute development will tend to be a heel to toe runner and have trouble gliding, planting, and getting off on the balls of the feet.

The biggest weakness among young athletes is lack of glute development.
